How does a move from EKM to Shopify work?
EKM's data comes out through its Import/Export System, a feature you install from your EKM dashboard. From there you can export products, categories, orders and your image list to spreadsheets, with CSV suggested for smaller ranges and XLSX for larger ones. Product spreadsheets can include meta titles and descriptions, which helps carry your SEO work across.
At the time of writing, Shopify's own Store Migration app doesn't list EKM as a supported platform, so the move is built around those spreadsheets, reshaped to fit Shopify's import format. Web pages, blog content and features from EKM's add-ons are recreated in your new Shopify theme, and every EKM product and category URL is mapped to its new address.

EKM to Shopify migration FAQs

Is there an automatic way to move from EKM to Shopify?
Not a simple one. At the time of writing, Shopify's Store Migration app doesn't list EKM among its supported platforms. Instead, data is exported using EKM's Import/Export System, reshaped to match Shopify's import format and checked carefully once it's in. Some third-party migration apps may help with parts of the job, and we'll recommend one only if it genuinely saves time.
Will I lose my Google rankings when I leave EKM?
Not if the move is planned properly. Shopify uses its own fixed URL patterns, such as /products/ and /collections/, so none of your EKM addresses will exist after the switch. We map every product, category and page with traffic or links to its new Shopify URL, set up 301 redirects before launch and monitor Search Console closely afterwards.
When should I switch, given my EKM contract?
Check your EKM agreement and notice period before setting a launch date, so you aren't paying for two platforms longer than necessary or left without a shop. We usually build and test your Shopify store while EKM is still live, then switch over once everything is ready. We'll help you plan the timing around your busy seasons.
Will my customers need new passwords?
Customer details can be imported, but Shopify can't migrate passwords from another platform. With Shopify's newer customer accounts, shoppers sign in with a one-time code sent to their email, so there's no password to set. We'll help you write a short note so regular customers know what's changed and where to find you.
Can Shopify handle UK VAT and shipping?
Yes. Shopify can be set up to sell in pounds, charge or include UK VAT and offer the shipping rates you use today. We configure your taxes, shipping zones, payments and policies, then place test orders before launch. We'd always suggest checking your VAT setup with your accountant, as every business is different.
How long does an EKM to Shopify migration take?
For a small to medium shop, typically a few weeks from planning to launch. The main variables are the size of your range, how complex your product options are, how much content you have and whether you want a new design. Your EKM shop keeps trading while we build.
